Right, despite the pandemic, we are getting closer to getting the site off the ground. There has been lots going on in the background and we are now getting near to doing the front page. The site is about Neural Networking and the hold up is mainly myself getting to grips with the topic but, we are getting there…Look out for the new front page, I will be transferring it from the backup to live very shortly.
WASHINGTON Researchers have shown that it is possible to train artificial neural networks directly on an optical chip. The significant breakthrough demonstrates that an optical circuit can perform a critical function of an electronics-based artificial neural network and could lead to less expensive, faster and more energy efficient ways to perform complex tasks such as speech or image recognition. Using an optical chip to perform neural network computations more efficiently than is possible with digital computers could allow more complex problems to be solved, said research team leader Shanhui Fan of Stanford University . This would enhance the capability of artificial neural networks to perform tasks required for self-driving cars or to formulate an appropriate response to a spoken question, for example. It could also improve our lives in ways we can t imagine now. An artificial neural network is a type of artificial intelligence that uses connected units to process information in a manner similar to the way the brain processes information. Using these networks to perform a complex task, for instance voice recognition, requires the critical step of training the algorithms to categorize inputs, such as different words. Although optical artificial neural networks were recently demonstrated experimentally, the training step was performed using a model on a traditional digital computer and the final settings were then imported into the optical circuit. Most interesting, Photonic Integrated Circuits will indeed speed up not only neural networks but, computer processing in general too – They have been in development for a while but great strides are being made now. As we understand it Intel is also finalizing the developing its own Optical chip so hopefully we may all soon have the benefit of super fast processing.
Founded in 1916, The Optical Society (OSA) is the leading professional organization for scientists, engineers, students and business leaders who fuel discoveries, shape real-life applications and accelerate achievements in the science of light. Through world-renowned publications, meetings and membership initiatives, OSA provides quality research, inspired interactions and dedicated resources for its extensive global network of optics and photonics experts. Hi and thanks for your reply. I shall look into the OSA with great interest. In the meantime there is an excellent article about the fusion between optical chips and optical processing which allows for the instantaneous processing of direct digital information without the need for the processing of digital images. For your perusal – The information can be found here
Image name: On-Chip Neural Network Training Caption: Researchers have shown a neural network can be trained using an optical circuit (blue rectangle in the illustration). In the full network there would be several of these linked together. The laser inputs (green) encode information that is carried through the chip by optical waveguides (black). The chip performs operations crucial to the artificial neural network using tunable beam splitters, which are represented by the curved sections in the waveguides. These sections couple two adjacent waveguides together and are tuned by adjusting the settings of optical phase shifters (red and blue glowing objects), which act like knobs that can be adjusted during training to perform a given task. Hi Alexander, Yes I understand, this is an article from the OSA dated 19 July 2018 Entitled ‘Researchers Move Closer to Completely Optical Artificial Neural Network’ We get it. It is no use just copying and pasting articles if YOU yourself wish to make original comment or content. Simply – speak for yourself. No cut no paste just speak for your self and I will answer….Thank you
Спасибо за информацию.
hi Ekaterina – glad you think the information is useful to you – there will be much more to come. Thank you – Liz.
It is very important for you to stay well hydrated before and after you play a game. Sela Weider Adelina
Hi Porno and yes, always need more wine before a game – liz.
I feel very lucky to follow your page
Thank you – you are so lucky — Liz.
Have an idea for a project that will add value for arXiv’s community? Learn more about arXivLabs and how to get involved .
Hi Степан yes I have heard of arXchive (Archive) but, you are not informing me, nor anyone else – what is your idea, what is the project and HOW to get involved….Liz.
Hi, i read your blog occasionally and i own a similar one and
i was just wondering if you get a lot of spam responses?
If so how do you reduce it, any plugin or anything
you can recommend? I get so much lately it’s
driving me insane so any support is very much appreciated.
Hi shayla, many thanks for your message – yes I get loads of spam so I use a generic wordpress spam filter – the filter does not delete spam comments but holds them for me to look at – if you use wordpress just look for spam filters and choose one and click install. The other system I use is the new version of G**gle capcha which is automatic so I don’t see any spam through this Capcha removes everything other than genuine messages – so I don’t even know what stuff is coming through. Sadly this means I don’t see any bitcoin millionaire adverts no more . sigh…
